AI myths is a website that gathers resources to tackle 8 myths and misconceptions about AI.
During Mozfest 2019 in London I got to know Mozilla Fellow Daniel Leufer; we realized that we had a common passion for demystifying AI and fighting AI hype. At this time Daniel was working for the digital rights organization Access Now and in need for a person to help him technically build “Aimyths.org” and I said that I would be more than happy to collaborate!
AI myths has been one of the succesful projects of my career because of its positive impact: The website has been visited by many people and is often cited in reading lists about AI literacy and critical AI studies. Still today, more than 5 years later, and after the boom of generative AI, most of the original myths are still relevant!

My role
Although I have spend half my career on the topic of AI, in this project I was wearing my other hat of a web developer. While Daniel wrote most of the articles, I took care of the technical development of the website.
The website is a simple static website, using Gatsby, React and styled components. All content is written in Markdown. The source code is openly accessible on Github: https://github.com/alexabruck/aimyths
Widget “Headline rephraser”

My favorite part of this project were two playful “language widgets” that I developed: As a language nerd and word affictionado this has been a lot of fun. The idea: Daniel and I realized that a lot of AI myths are related to a specific language used to speak about AI technologies. And we thought the best way to reflect about AI myths is by rephrasing some quotes:
