In 2024 I built a web platform for the Swiss architects association Creatrices.ch through which they were able to run a national-wide open call for creative text submissions to be presented as physical letters on a physical billboard next to Zurich main station. It included a public facing website with a custom form, and a backend to analyze and export the submitted data.

The project

The association Creatrices.ch organized an open call in 2024: “A BILLBOARD will be installed along the tracks near Zurich main station. Those expecting advertisements will be surprised: for a year, nothing less than an inclusive, feminist future will be promoted.” The open call invited the public to submit texts and text fragments in all languages. The 12 most compelling contributions were selected for publication on the physical BILLBOARD in metre-high lettering.

What I did

I built a website including a custom form through which the participants of the open call could enter their text submission. I also built a custom backend and CMS through which the admistrators could sort, filter and print the submission.

The submission form

The web interface provided a form, emphasizing accessibility and usability. Physical constraints of the physical billboard were translated into the digital. Over a period of six weeks, text contributions could be submitted via a web interface or by post. A total of 848 contributions were received.

Supporting analogue processes

The backend enabled the members of Creatrices.ch to tag, filter and organize the submissions. A PDF export functionality made it easy to print the submissions and discuss them in the analogue jury process.
